Mission Statement

My mission is to create a more just, sustainable, and equitable world through scientific research and activism. My passion lies in combating environmental racism and climate injustices on local and global scales. I aim to increase the representation of Black women in STEM, particularly in Earth and Environmental Science. This website is one of the many ways that I seek to carry out this mission. I hope that by sharing my experiences and knowledge related to higher education, scientific research, and social justice, I can inspire others to pursue their passion and recognize the power they hold to change the world.

My blog serves as a place to share my experiences as a Black woman in STEM, including my successes and failures. You can also follow my journey through graduate school as I pursue my doctorate degree. I hope sharing my knowledge and advice opens the door for underrepresented minorities to be successful in the scientific field or other areas in which they are passionate.

What Do I Study?

My research interests include climate change, soil biogeochemistry, and environmental justice. I am passionate about environmental justice because the negative impacts of climate change and environmental degradation disproportionately impact communities of color and low-income communities. I have just begun investigating a variety of questions surrounding soil contamination in urban gardens, specifically in marginalized communities. I plan to create sustainable adaptation measures to ameliorate the impact of climate change and environmental pollution.
